Hansa and my first PnP!

On 12th and 13th March 2015: @ home:

I try some of the simple games with my daughter, when I go through the rules for the first time. Recently I bought Hansa and Risk 2210 A.D. in a Pay it forward trade. I had been trying to read the rules for Hansa and finally figured it out that day with my daughter. We played a two player game and Advika did not enjoy it at all.

Besides playing all the heavy games, I started developing a soft corner for the filler games since I bought Splendor and this is one such. Hell yeah! I love all my games.

The next day I did my first PnP and I loved it. It is very fascinating when you do something all by yourself and I would happily call it a “discovery”! I never knew about PnPs until last few weeks. When I came to know, I was so curious to do one by myself. So I was browsing through BGG and the board game geek group on FB. Saw some comments about Fish Cook and decided to print it out.

The game wasn’t so intriguing as much as I wished it could have been. But I played it for few times now and perfect for kids or when you need to play a very light stuff. I used the cubes from Dominant Species, dice from Panamax and some poker chips. Good work from cheapass games and it was fun and easy to make.

Trajan with 5 player expansion

On 11th March 2015: @FFGEC:

A normal Wednesday evening and I was looking for something to play while everyone was busy in some game already. Also Ellen did not arrive. I met Billie Jean and she was telling about the new Alchemist. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a spot in it. The next person I met was Eric, sitting with his Trajan as usual. Ellen arrived meanwhile. So we all sat down for Trajan with a 5 th player expansion designed by Eric himself.

Mike, Eric, Ellen, Todd and I were the five players. Trajan is an awesome game and I came second next to Mike who just had 40 points bump during the last round of the game. Everyone got startled with the way I always stood first till the last round. All the end game scoring I planned for was stolen by Ellen and Mike. So couldn’t make it to the top.

It is a great game and will definitely add to my collection at some point of time.

Game Room 16!!

On 8th, 9th, 10th March 2015: @ home:

Sunday (8th) Quarriors:

Played Quarriors with Advika and Arun. I didn’t know it has a potential to create so much fun until I played with my family. Love the game.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Monday(9th) Monopoly Express, China, TEK, Cribbage and Guillotine:

I and Advika played Monopoly Express, which is one of out favorites. Also I figured out how to play China which has seen a lot of shelf wear since I bought it 2 years back. It is a pretty nice game with TTR like strategies. Simple and easy for Advika as well.

The same night we played Tiny Epic Kingdoms, while watching India-Ireland world cup match. I, Sinsha, Aditya and Mitra played the 4 player TEK. I understood how stupid it could be to introduce TEK to new players and at the wrong time. It was totally boring to play that while watching tv and kids running around. Splendor is perfect for such situations.

Also I and Mitra played cribbage and Guillotine. Perfect for 2 players.

Tuesday(10th) Quo Vadis and Arcana:

Quo Vadis is going good whenever I play it with Advika. Definitely not a great game but better when you play a few times.

Also played Arcana and Quarriors with Mitra. A very casual evening for both of us and she called for a 2 player game.

Game Room 15!!

On 7th March 2015 @ Goutham’s:

Every Saturday has become gaming day. Goutham, Priya and Sudha are very much interested in board games. This is a great news for me and we are consistently having fun together every weekend.

We played,

Splendor:

Goutham, Priya, Sudha and her mom came to play at the clubhouse. We found that clubhouse was busy and I called them to my house to play. Since the space is kind of  small here, we thought we could go to Goutham’s place.

While Sudha went to meet Chaitanya, who is another resident here at Shoreview Grand, I, Goutham and Priya decided to play a game of Splendor. It was a learning game, but they both liked it very well.

Terra Mystica:

Then we set off to his place(Lexington Apartments) and decided to start a 4 player game of Terra Mystica. Learning game for Sudha and Priya. I and Goutham, chose the factions and gave Nomads to Priya and Halflings to Sudha. Goutham was playing almost 80 percent of the game for Priya and I played 10 percent for Sudha, besides our own game. I love teaching games to others and there was a lot of interaction, gabbling and lot of fun throughout.

TM is not for me, and just losing every single time is more than enough to make sure my statement. 🙂

Also celebrated Sudha’s birthday with her friends(and Colleagues) Chaitanya and Shilpa.

Russian Railroads:

We all decided to play another game after dinner. There was a big confusion about where the dinner should be. And finally we all went with Advika’s wish to go to Big Bowl , the Chinese restaurant.

Then we came back and settled for Russian Railroads. Being the only one who knew the game play, I sat down to teach. It was around 11.30 PM and everyone looked dull. Priya is one who judges any game way ahead, even before knowing what is what and she decided the game to be boring(she says ‘Mokkai’ 🙂 ). But after starting to play, everyone seemed to be enthusiastic except me. I was doing very well for the first 3 or 4 rounds and once others learnt, I was pushed to second place with none other than Goutham in the first place(around 100 points lead) .

We ended the game at around 3.30 PM(with daylight saving).

Machi Koro with First MN!

On 6th March 2015:

I went in to see two tables with my favorite games Panamax and Eclipse. I was offered a spot in both but I wanted to try something new.

Meanwhile Ellen showed up, and we both were waiting for some game. Brendan, the little super star of the group was waiting for some game as well. So we all joined together. It turned out to be a very entertaining session of Machi Koro. Fun game but definitely not a great one. Would buy only if I get it free 😉

Ellen was pretty good in it, and I came last with my bad dice rolling.  The Tuna Boat did wonders and I feel it to be kind of unbalanced. If you don’t have certain cards, it is impossible to win. Pure game of chance. It can be chaotic, but not everyone will enjoy it.

Organized gaming 6!!

On 6th March 2015:

Played a 2 player Arkwright Waterframe version with Tim. More interesting sessions of Arkwright is nothing more a some perfect pleasure!

I won with 575 points and Tim got 504. I produced a lot of Cutlery and stood strong with making spoons and forks!! I am telling a so much about this game to Arun and now I badly want to play it with him.

Game Room 14!!

On 4th, 5th and 6th March 2015:

Got some new games from BGG trade- Quarriors(with Quarmageddon), Love Letter, Munchkin and Guillotine. Played them one by one with Arun and Advika.

On the Wednesday, I had to miss going to FFGC, because I decided to play Arcana(being the recent hotness at home) with Mitra and Advika. Advika really liked the game, since I taught her the day before. I also failed to deliver Pamplona to David and informed him that I wasn’t able to.  😦

1) Deciphering rules(4th) March:

2) Played Quarriors and Guillotine with Advika the next day, as we both spend most of the day time playing when she doesn’t go to school:

And the same evening, I pulled Arun for a game of Guillotine and he seemed to have liked it.

3) The next day late  in the evening, after the big day of gaming including Arkwright and Machi Koro, I and Arun got down to play Munchkin. It is a great game for family. Besides it being simple, gateway and all that, I love it just because of the fun it creates in the group.

My game room is getting bigger and merrier! 🙂

Game Room 13!!

On 28th Feb, 2nd, 3rd, 4th March 2015: @Shoreview Grand:

Played Panamax once again with friends at the clubhouse. I, Sudha, Goutham and Priya made a 4 player game and Sudha was a new player. Though she did not seem to enjoy this game as much as she did for Eclipse and others, she said she had a good time learning a new game. But from next week she had requested for an already played game instead of a new one.

Then, when we were about to start another game of Tiny Epic Kingdoms, two of Sudha’s colleagues showed up and accepted to join the game. Divya and another friend were very much thrilled with the game, as TEK was their first ever board game. They struggled to understand, but eventually they seemed to be comprehending well.

Divya played till the end but the other girl left early, as she had some work.  We completed the gaming around 9.30 PM. The day went so very entertaining and had a nice time with friends.

Then, the next day was even more geeky, which definitely needs a separate post.

March started with my new games Russian Railroads and Arcana. Played Russian Railroads with Arun. Actually it is the learning game for Arun and I used the opportunity to make him lose. lol. I scored somewhere near 280 and he was in some 220!

The next day was Tuesday, so Advika was at home and she loves playing Arcana. We played 2 games of Arcana and she won both. In fact she went all by herself this time. Though it doesn’t seem to be so exciting except for the artwork, I started loving the game.

She even marked her first victory in her scrap book. Awwwww…. how sweet!! 🙂

And today is one notable day, as I made my second successful trading. About 2 years back I sold my first game “How to host a murder”  for $10.  And today I traded my copy of Pamplona to David Combs, for the “Twin Cities Pay it Forward” geeklist.

Pandemic!

On 27th Feb 2015: @Source:

Got to know that David Dockter is the designer of the board game Triumph of Chaos.  Also he was discussing about Russian Civil War, which I had no idea about. It was a great evening as always with First MN people.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Tried Pandemic for the first time. I am actually very late for this game but good that it did not impress me very much.

I cannot forget how badly the guy, who played with me, pronounced the names of different places. Played a 3 player game with Eric and another guy. A well designed co-operative game, played 2 games and we lost both.

Saw another game called Winds of Plunder. Dr. Jean and others were playing and they also showed me some figures of a game called HeroClix.

Organized gaming 5!

On March 1st 2015:

The biggest gaming day or it can be called as “historically significant” day in my life. It was an amusing long day of gaming. Could you believe? We played both Arkwright and Dominant Species.

Erik, Dan, Tim and I played a four player Waterframe version of Arkwright. It was a great gaming experience. I wouldn’t ever go tired, claiming Arkwright to be the game of the decade. I am so convinced to buy a new copy and I always keep it in my “Funagain.com” shopping cart. Will soon buy it and wanna enjoy even after going to India. This could be perfect to play with Arun and Goutham.

After completing the 4 hour game of Arkwright, Billie Jean showed up and we all headed out to Potbelly in Dan’s car. Bought all sandwiches we needed, and came back to sit down for the awesome lecture of Daniel on DS. Since Tim and Billie Jean were new, Dan taught the game for about half an hour and then we started to play. It went on for about 3 wonderful hours. After all it is Dominant Species, my first all time favorite .

I do not know if I will ever get such a day again in my life, but it would be always appreciated.

Fang Face, Gummy Mouth Tongue, Cute Monkey Face, and Beak Nose are the nick names Billie Jean gave for all the DS players. Isn’t that cool! lol 🙂
